The 2015 PCA Nord Stern Loonacy Club Race Weekend was a resounding success.
Over forty race cars. Over fifty DE cars. A silent auction. A live auction. Porsche and Pancakes. Parade Laps. New Members. Old Members. New friends. If you missed the weekend activities you should put it on your calendar for next year as this is truly Nord Stern at its best.
Thanks to so many dedicated volunteers is in order. Doug Anderson deserves substantial thanks for being Nord Stern’s Club Race manager and keeping everything running smoothly and organized. The legions of Nord Stern volunteers in the pits and in the grid acted like pros even if it was the first day of volunteering for many.
Club Race Charity Manager Keith Jones put on an amazing auction with great variety and items. Bruce Boeder did his best live auction impression standing on a picnic bench and everyone enjoyed the Saturday social time after the first sprint race and auction. Even if a certain member was outbid by his own brother for a Bret Bailey original art piece depicting the 2015 Loonacy Club Race “P-Car.”
Steve Meydell’s Porsche and Pancakes, and drive from Monticello to BIR followed by Parade Laps was resounding success with over 15 members joining and at least three new members signing up. Nicely done. Our membership chair Ed Vasquez was also on hand making sure we all remember it is not just the cars – it’s keeping and obtaining new members!!
Paul Ingebrigtsen kept us safe as the safety steward, and Dave Anderson and Kim Fritze handled race and DE registration and generally lots of “weekend” issues. Paul even club raced and Dave DE’d and married a son off as well on the same weekend – talk about busy days.
To all other volunteers who were not named above, and you know who you are – thank you from Nord Stern.
Recovering after a ten plus hour tow home – and smart enough to know I will do nothing productive today other than write this email, I end this email by simply saying thanks to all who made this weekend great.
*****Stay tuned for ESCAPE TO RUSHMORE REGISTRATION NEWS as it is coming shortly…… with dates and times*****
Mike Sabers, 2015 Nord Stern Region PCA President
Nord Stern’s Premiere Track Event / Club Race Weekend at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) is fast approaching and is scheduled for July 24-26th. Here is some information, opportunities, dates, times and contact information for those partaking in a great weekend of P-Car enjoyment.
THE CLUB RACE / DE WEEKEND IS ON AS SCHEDULED AND BIR IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS
First, Nord Stern’s Club Race is on as scheduled. BIR did suffer storm damage but has assured Nord Stern that it will be up and running for our Club Race weekend. In fact, they are going to be up and running this weekend to run the Superbikes, so Nord Stern is in good shape for our weekend. Nord Stern will have to work our meetings / registration around some building damage but we are a hearty folk and I expect it will go just fine.
PORSCHE AND PANCAKES SATURDAY JULY 25th w/ DRIVE TO BIR / PARADE LAPS
Second, and a great opportunity for those who have not yet joined either the DE or Club Racing crowd. Steve Meydell is hosting “Porsche and Pancakes” and varying the forum a bit to also include an extended drive to BIR for the Club Race weekend.
Steve is planning a breakfast in Monticello at the Cornerstone Café, 154 W Broadway St, Monticello, MN 55362. Time: 8:30 p.m.
You can attend for breakfast and you can continue on and join Steve for the drive to BIR via Highway 25. The plan is to arrive at BIR in time for Parade Laps on the track on Saturday. You will be able to drive the track at highway speed without any special safety gear; we ask for a small donation to charity. You will also be able to see our Club Race and what happens at the track. A great introduction for all of those who have not yet stepped on to the slippery slop. During the day on Saturday Nord Stern has a silent auction going on with many special items. At the end of the day we have a social hour and live auction. The auctioned items (car related items, sport tickets, wine, goodie baskets etc.) are donated to raise money for Courage Kenny. In sum, I cannot imagine a better day……. Folks who attend can stay local or drive home that same night. I would propose to stick around and watch the endure race on Sunday!
Steve Meydell would appreciate some type of head count so please email him at: barclayIII@comcast.net.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE IN THE ACTION: A CALL FOR GRID VOLUNTEERS
Want to get up close and personal to Porsche Club Race Cars? There’s nothing like the smell of race fuel in the morning . . . Like lime green vests? If this is something that sounds exciting – and it is, makes sure to search out Loran Hall – he’ll already be wearing a really cool lime green vest about half an hour before the race in the grid area and he will get you set up. I did this about seven years ago (before I started club racing) and it was a lot of fun. Up close and personal for sure and part of the action.
REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN FOR BOTH CLUB RACE AND THE DE EVENT
Nord Stern is less then two weeks out from its premier BIR Club Race / DE Event. For all the club racers out there on the fence – you only get to race at BIR once a year. Sign up. For all DE folks, the amount of track time inserted into this Club Race weekend is substantial and you will not find a better value for track time anywhere. Plus, in between your sessions there is ample racing entertainment available. So, sign up and come join Nord Stern fun at its best. Registration is open at ClubRegistration.net.
All for now – feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any other questions!!
